BIB 192 Biblical interpretation

This course introduces the tools and methods for Bible research, teaching students to draw from Scripture in order to minister to others. The student will gain specific principles, methodical guidelines, and skills training for in-depth study and interpretation of the Bible.

BIB 490 Book Study: Deuteronomy - Hybrid

This course will examine the book of Deuteronomy. Attention will be given to its content, form, and style, as well as its historical context, literary shape, and history of interpretation. Focusing on exegesis and application, this course will outline the major themes, purposes and message of the book for the people of God both in the ancient world and contemporary society.

GEN 291 Introduction to Ethics

An overview of some basic ethics systems with a focus on Christian ethics. This course provides a framework for ethical thought based on the Christian Bible and explores a selection of ethical systems. A major goal is understanding to how ethicists develop their ethical systems.

ICM 222 Introduction to Christian Missions - Hybrid

This course is designed to acquaint students with the scriptural basis for missions (missiology), the history of missions, as well as a current global view of missions. Students will also explore their denomination/church’s understanding, motivation and methodology for missions engagement.

PMN 490 Ministry Study: Women in Ministry

This course will examine the topic of women serving in ministry, particularly focused on ministry leadership capacities. Attention will be given to biblical theology and creating opportunties for all of God’s people to express their gifts and callings.

 

THS 101 Survey of Christian Beliefs

This course introduces students to the basic concept of worldviews and the importance of understanding a Christian worldview. The basic Christian beliefs that form the basis of a Christian view of the world are then surveyed according to standard theological categories.

CNS 240 Abnormal Psychology

This course provides an overview of current conceptions of psychological dysfunction faced by mental health professionals. Primary focus will be directed towards the symptoms, causality, and treatment of psychopathology and behavioral problems.

CNS 245 Brain and Behaviour

This course seeks to introduce students to the core concepts of behavioral neuroscience in an accessible, applicable, and possibly even faith-inspiring way. We will look at the wonders of brain structures and functions that respond to experiences and generate sensations, thoughts, feelings, and behavior. We will also explore implications for understanding how people are biologically wired to learn and grow, and applications for helping people more effectively as counsellors and ministers.

Prerequisites: CNS 110/GEN 171.

CNS 331 Personality Theories

This course is intended to provide participants with a broad base of knowledge of the major theories of personality, and how these theories can aid in understanding individual differences and diversity in human behavior. Through discussions of the textbook and supplementary readings, as well as interacting with several personality inventories, we will explore implications of the course material for self-discovery and development as professional helpers and as Christian disciples. We will also consider how the theories may inform or challenge our understanding of God’s plan for diversity in human beings who are each uniquely “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14-15) created in the image of God to walk alongside one another as “One Body, Many Parts” (1 Corinthians 12).

Prerequisites: CNS 110/GEN 171.

Christian English Language Immersion

ELL 083 Introduction to Christianity

This course offers an introduction to Christianity to students who do not have English as their native language and are not familiar with Christianity. It explores the basic beliefs of Christianity, introduces some basic vocabulary used in the Christian faith and will explore the basic parts of the Bible and what it means to Christians. If you have always wanted to know more about Christians, this is your chance to learn more in a friendly environment.

ELL 098 Pre-Graduate Theology Reading and Writing

This course is for students entering graduate level theological training who wish to upgrade their English writing and reading skills to handle the challenges of graduate level theological English. Writing course materials will cover common writing issues, common writing assignment types and Chicago Manual Style citation. Reading course materials will explore reading and note-taking strategies and the exploration of several texts from various eras will be discussed.
